HIDE-AND-SEEK I'M NOT SLEEPY READY FOR BED TOO DARK!

A set of board books featuring teddy bears, all bedtime stories for toddlers. Too Dark! begins with a bear hiding under the covers in his dark bedroom. The picture on the wall and the pillow on the chair seem to have faces, the boots look like someone hiding in the closet. Another bear comes to his rescue and identifies each object, allowing the poor teddy a peaceful night's sleep. In I'm Not Sleepy, five bears pillow-fight, play soccer, and dance. With each activity, the bears decrease in number as they get sleepy and go to bed. Finally, a game of follow-the-leader, which ends up in the bedroom, lands the rest in bed. In Hide-and-Seek, Louise bear looks for a suitable hiding place. None of the places is right, except for her bed--where she's found fast asleep. Ready for Bed features Andrew bear, who loads himself down with bedtime props. When he trips down the steps, his things get ruined. But his friends salvage them--and from them create a puppet show--then give him a good-night cuddle. The best of the four is Too Dark!, thanks to its straightforward and direct story line, and its satisfying treatment of a common childhood fear. Toddlers may well be confused by the other books. The numerous look-alike bear characters that can only be distinguished by colors and names, and the overcrowded spreads, may add to the confusion. Still, the books are colorful and their messages warm.
