THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR by Sutherland Ross

THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR

By

Pub Date: Feb. 15th, 1966

This battle by battle account of the English Civil War is written with strong dramatic effect, and made especially vivid by the emphasis on the people involved, both Royalist and Roundhead. Each of the leaders, as well as lesser fighters, has been precisely and distinctly described, with an evaluation of his part in the war. The main concentration is on the first part of the war when Cromwell was victorious, but the final chapter covers Charles II's return to England. The course of the war is always made clear (a more precise map than the one provided would have been a help for American readers, though) as well as its long range effects.
