An introduction to face-painting: its significance in various cultures plus directions for applying greasepaint or water-based makeup. The excellent color photographs show representative face paintings from Nubia, Kabuki theater, Iroquois, Huichal, and other cultures; animal faces, clown makeup, and original designs are also suggested. A brief introductory section outlines some of the reasons people paint their faces, lists the materials needed to do the paintings illustrated, and cautions about possible allergies, telling the best way to test for them. Two mail suppliers for makeup are given. The instructions for makeup application are reasonably clear, but most children under 12 will need some adult assistance in executing the designs. This book will be very popular at Halloween and is a good candidate for a book-talk the rest of the year.
