A no-dog girl becomes an all-dog girl in this one-track tale of a dilapidated dachshund who becomes brave. Eleven-year-old Bets, the only dog-hater in the Benedict family, suddenly finds herself the disgruntled mistress of Schnitzel, her grandmother's aging dachshund. Love between dog and one-time dog hater grows and grows, until Bets shows her complete conversion to canines by purchasing another hound. Unexceptional character study and dialogue limit the appeal of the book to stubborn dog devotees. By the author of Dream Pony for Robin (1962, p.324, J-100).
