A delightful Scottish mystery, this is as natural and disarming as its 15 year old heroine, Holly Gordon, who goes to an Aberdeen island for a summer with her mother and her zoology professor father- and manages to spend a lot of the time with a travelling theatre group. It is on the train to Scotland that Holly latches on to Ross Mordley, a merchant navy cadet with a mysterious pirate ancestor, who is on his way to join the Lumleys, who run the group, for the holidays. Theatricals and the search for Ross's elusive great-great-grandfather, are played out in a dialogue that leaves little to be desired, against the backdrop of a very appealing Scotland.
