This is an excellent addition to the Opal Wheeler-Sybil Deucher series of popular fictionalized musical biographies for the third to fifth grade levels. In itself, Brahms' story is a surely popular one,- the early boyhood years, the struggle of the family to make ends meet, the hunger of the child Johannes for music and a chance not only to play the piano as much as time allowed, but to hear the compositions he was doing in his head and writing down. A good story and of course of particular interest and value for young musicians. The introduction of a number of the youthful compositions as an integral part of the book is an added contribution for musical aspirants.
