MARIO'S MYSTERY MACHINE

When a little Mexican boy begins a mysterious building project, the baker, barber, and other villagers fear that he is making a machine that will put them out of business. But the magnificent invention is finally revealed as an animated model town, a relief to the merchants and a marvel to all, because ""she does what no other machine wilt ever do. She makes laughter!"" There's a little more suspense than in many easy to read stories but consequently greater let-down in the conventional ending, and just as there is no particular reason for the Mexican setting, there is no particular reason for recommending the book.
