THE ARABIAN NIGHTS PICTURE BOOK

Inevitably The Arabian Nights raises a problem of age level. This with its generous selection of thirteen of the classic tales, is no exception. While labelled a Picture Book, the pictures with their crude drawings and colors tend to suggest the comic strip techniques, while the text lacks little of the violence and cruelty that distinguishes most versions of these ancient tales and fails to convey the imaginative quality and the glamor that usually offset the other aspects. With the wide choice of editions, available at all prices, this seems to have little to offer.
