JEEPS: A Dog For Defense

Young Don wants to do his part in this war, so he offers his dog, Jeeps, to Dogs for Defense. The story of Jeeps' acceptance, and training, his trip to a South Pacific Island, part of which is still held by the Japs, of his courage in the face of the enemy, and of his winning a medal, is told in a very stilted manner, and makes quite dull reading. The illustrator, Don Nelson, knows how to draw dogs, but his figure work illustrates the writing all too well. Two colors.
