The author's name is security for comfortable sales and rentals, but in this reader's opinion, this book is a disappointment after Breakfast in Bed. Somewhat the same pattern is used -- in that it is a story loosely woven together, through the chance connections between several women who are bearing children almost simultaneously. There is the young woman, secure in her place in the world of wealth and fashion, happy in a second marriage; there is the mother of six whose passion turns to movies and flowers, and who happens to have, as the ward doctor, the doctor who comes to the other woman's luxurious home; there is the woman who has been employed in the establishment, and who bears -- and loses -- her first child after many years of waiting. A tenuous tale, lacking the sprightly humor of Breakfast in Bed. But written with facile pen and seeing eye.
