Even more vapory and rhapsodic than I Wish There Were Two of Me (p. 632, J-214), and sicklied o'er with Shimin's favorite gilded light, this is a fond (perhaps languishing) father's wordless view of a little girl's awakening on her birthday and, accompanied by her cat, following and untangling a maze of ribbons which lead her to her gifts (never unwrapped here). In at least one pose the child, prone on the floor in a white shift, looks to us like she's either wasting from consumption or playing seductive.
