This is an English import which traces Italian history from the world of Ancient Rome through the first Popes and Emperors, the rise of the City States, the Renaissance, the years of Spanish rule, Napoleon's conquest, Italian unification and the events of the last hundred years. It is a simple overview whose strength lies mainly in Clarke Hutton's picturesque drawings. Other Picture Histories in this series concentrate on Great Britain, Canada, France and the United States.
