THE FORCE CARRIES ON by T. Morris Longstreth

See last year's The Scarlet Force for the predecessor to this further volume on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Where the former was a chronology of the events that have marked the life of the Force since its birth in 1873, this highlights many of the actual cases and particular aspects that have won the Force its reputation and the characteristics it has today. A sampling would include the story behind the legend of always getting their man (perhaps its most important effect is the psychological one on the criminal); how the Mounties train and work with dogs; the Marine division; public relations; and a good assortment of the cases cracked- from Hudson's Bay to the Yukon. Solid produce for a steady market.
