A travel book -- the first in the field, and a comprehensive account of a trip to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Starts and ends with Halifax, goes down the outer coast to Yarmouth, back through Digby, Annapolis Royal, Grand Pre, and on to Cape Breton, then back again to Halifax. Delightful account of hunting for the obscure and unusual, digging out quaint bits of authentic history, seeing odd corners that escape the average traveler. The story is told in the first person, and the cynical comments of his traveling companion add a pungent quality to the account. Nothing of the inland lakes and streams, the hunter's and fisherman's paradise. But otherwise, an ideal guide book for the tourist who dodges the obvious.
