ESASPERAZIONE: Exasperation

Mostly a study of the people of Trentino during the world war, Italians by tradition and character but annexed to Austria and compelled to fight against their will on the Austrian side. The young hero is Rodolfo Sudanoi, through whom the feelings and reactions of the Trentinians toward the Germans and Austrians are emphasized. The plot is slight, as is the romantic element. It is a revealing if somewhat depressing book.
