An autobiography, which traces the author's story from the 1919 revolution in Russia to the present day. Trained in Soviet schools under the communist regime, she lived the life of a good Soviet citizen through the days of the siege of Moscow. Then she met a British correspondent, and married him, and despite government opposition left Russia to live with him in England. Character is secondary to story, and the intimate details of growing up in Soviet Russia, the daily life, education (only for the children of the proletariat), family relationships, love, marriage, divorce, careers. An informative story of a way of life, of interest to those who would know how the ordinary citizen lives behind the Iron Curtain. Not a political book, but a human document.
