KIRKUS REVIEW

Some charming recollections of a Japanese boyhood done by the well known artist in a series of simple captions and free and brightly colored pencil pictures may have less appeal for children than their parents. The huge tree on the river bank was a perfect playground. Through the pictures, it becomes the scene of teeming activity- climbing, housebuilding, swimming, playing games, catching shrimps- until the sun has set and we have seen a very real Japan.
