This autobiography concerns the efforts of a woman to break though a male barrier, forcibly entering one of man's last sanctuaries -- the sacred halls of law. What makes the feat even more rare is that she not only accomplished this at the height of the Depression but that she chose nothing less than District Attorney as a goal. The book recounts tale upon tale of her legal career in all the departments of the Los Angeles D.A.'s office. She also documents the resistance and hardships undergone in trespassing on forbidden ground. Despite all her efforts to be accepted in a man's world (which she eventually was by dint of hard work) her outlook remains that of a woman. She presents an interesting picture of the criminal world seen through feminine eyes. The book, however, has a happy ending. The last pages of Mrs. Olender's successful career are concerned with an especially feminine interest-marriage.
