ATTY OF THE YANKEES

Jim Beatty, ace hitter for the New York Yankees, proves his stamina as a ball-player and a human being during a season in the big leagues. Jim has a big rookie year-he ties Maris' home run record. Handicapped by a fierce temper, he learns to deal with belligerent sports writers and fickle fans. The Yankees take the pennant and then meet the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. Heckled throughout by Giant bench warmers, Jim still manages to learn the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents and keep calm although he does sustain an injury in the final game. The mixture of fictitious and real characters is confusing and troublesome. The real rhubarb? Does the picture of demoralizing tactics as employed by the opposition set a good example for young fans?
