KIRKUS REVIEW

A serious and condensed text, this book by a co-director of the School of Ballet Repertory should be read by every child who has even the most casual interest in studying ballet. Specifically geared to the study of pointe dancing, On Your Toes warns children and parents of the many charlatans who prematurely offer lessons in this highly specialized form of dancing. It emphatically insists that the student must be physically prepared for such experience or stands to suffer permanent and damaging effects. Beside indicating the necessary equipment and indicating the foot best suited to the discipline of pointe dancing, Thalia Mara, author of the First, Second and Third Steps in Ballet series, offers over sixty exercises to improve and strengthen the student's dancing.
