A story of the Pennsylvania Dutch with somewhat the flavor of SUN ON THEIR SHOULDERS, but without the undercurrent of human appeal that redeems that book from morbidity and drabness. There is more of the perverted sex element in this, more of superstition and the power of religion gone askew. But there is that same all pervading love of the land, and sacrifice of everything to that supreme urge. Rather hard reading, told as it is in conversational form, with interludes of explanatory comment. Sales value doubtful. But Thames Williamson has a small but growing public, so call the book to their attention.
