FOLK TALES FROM ASIA FOR CHILDREN EVERY-WHERE: Book II

Volume Two of Folk Tales From Asia (see p. 182, J-62) once again brings us eight national variations on themes we've' met before in dressier, if less geographically specific versions. The Old Woman in the Gourd is, for example, a Nepalese variant on the tale most recently seen as Betsy Bang's The Old Woman and the Red Pumpkin (p. 118, J-42); from Sri Lanka comes the story of ""How the Lizard Fought the Leopard"" . . . the most original is the Khmer tale of ""The Four Bald Men"" (where greed is accepted as universal, and the moral points to the indispensability of luck).
