Bernadette Watts turns every folk tale she touches into a picture postcard fairyland. Here whether the text depicts rage, dread or desolation, the same tiled (for interiors) or flowery lushness takes over. Bernadette's witch appears neither ugly nor wicked, puppet-like Rapunzel looks like a vacant little simp, and the whole project is all the more audaciously redundant when you remember that Felix Hoffman did a Rapunzel back in 1961.
