A lot of water has gone over the dam since the Episcopal Church last produced a book on Parish Administration. No one is better qualified to bring us up to date than the not-very-retired Bishop of Western Massachusetts. To a Parish Ministry of almost thirty years. Bishop Lawrence added a score more years of service in a difficult Diocese. What he writes as counsel to Parsons, Vestries and Parishes has all been worked out the hard way. Most this kind are really written for Rectors only. Not so this one. Bishop Lawrence has so written that this manual should be read by every Vestryman or responsible leader in an Anglican Parish. But the good of it doesn't stop there. With just a slight amount of editing for his own denomination, the minister or lay leader of almost any Christian Church could read this with profit. Bishop Lawrence has always known that Christians came under many labels, and his writing reflects this. Certainly every one of the ten thousand Parishes and Missions of the Episcopal Church should be passing this volume around its leadership and many more thousands of Christians should profit by its advice. The of the writer constantly grown through the words, and his conviction that the Church should not merely be, but rather should witness dynamically to the whole of Christ, is constantly evident.
