The White House, official residence of the President, is omitted in this illustrated discussion, in order to present the birthplace and major private residence of each President from Washington to Kennedy. The text briefly (and stiffly) describes the architecture of each building with a word or two about the interior. Ridhard Bergere has captured specific likenesses in his representational black and white drawings. Mount Vernon, Monticello and Hyannis Port are among the familiar sites. Lindenwaid, Sherwood forest and The Beeches may not be as well known. Organized in chronological order, the text is too sketchy to inspire interest, but the illustrations are handsome.
