Directly addressed to the concerned parent, this book tries very hard. There is minimal sermonizing or blame assignment for the rising percentages of teenagers, especially middle class teenagers, who are in various kinds of trouble; there is much emphasis on the changing structure of our society, the need for attention and a realistic presentation of information to young people about the temptations they will encounter. For the trouble areas of v.d., drinking, dope, sex -- the author first describes the available facts and the current research, tells how to recognize the problem, and makes it meaningful in layman's terms by reporting individual case records or digesting widely broadcast community scandals. The bibliography is of easily obtained materials for the non- specialist.
