KIRKUS REVIEW

Reik intends to show Freud ""in his work, his conversations and his life"". He taps his own personal impressions, letters, lectures, etc. But to the average reader, the book seems a compilation of odd essays, eulogistic memories, a transcript of the master's voice in an unpublished lecture -- then a critique of certain of Freud's own essays in which he deals with contemporary civilization, culture and religion. For the faithful Freudian disciples -- and few beyond that.
