A GREEN CHRISTMAS by Theodora Kroeber

A GREEN CHRISTMAS

Santa's reindeer, accustomed to snowy fields, find California clover a treat, and two youngsters, accustomed to Colorado whiteness, discover that a green Christmas has its compensations--especially since Santa does not neglect them. Told in the form of a prose poem, set in the indefinite past, this might have been stronger if it had been less literal about Santa--if the ""faint but sure"" runner marks of a sleigh had been less sure--but it has the look of an old album of primitives (prettily colored) which may help to bridge the credibility gap. And its recognition that golden skies and green fields can be a boost rather than a bar to celebration will surely be welcome where the only white Christmas is on the radio.
