An actual experience of learning and teaching I have recorded here...It proceeds year by year from early childhood through school and college, into an adult life given over to teaching. If it is honest and really typical...it should throw light from the concrete side upon the abstraction we call education""...So speaks ther Dunn, Professor of English at Smith College, in her foreword. The text that follows als- all too typical of a lifetime given over to books and bookishness. What Miss Dunn tries to convey,- the color, thrill, adventure and deep meaning of a real intellectual life, she somehow fails to impart. She may enjoy her life, but those who read these pages will feel that it seems only pedanti and circumscribed. It is sincere. It may interest teachers, but I doubt if it provides stimulus or pration to many.
