G. I. NIGHTINGALE

This is the best factual report of nursing at the front that has reached us. The two which came out of the Philippine campaign were more adventure than nursing, but this gives the really authentic picture of the problems they have to face with trial and error experimentation at the front, in the early days of the North African invasion, of inadequate food and heat and clothing and equipment, of operating without adequate shelter or supplies. The story has lots of action -- glimpses of personalities -- occasional criticism -- humor -- and a contagious enthusiasm for achieving the impossible. North Africa, Sicily, Italy -- two campaigns -- no rest camp -- no glamor -- plenty of hard work -- but an inspiring and challenging picture, of nurses under fire.
