An authentically offbeat family story from Denmark that makes no concessions to adult expectations. Jan, the narrator, is apprehensive, and the reader increasingly uneasy, when it looks as if sister Anne is planning to murder their visiting cousin Peter with poisoned lemonade. But whatever her intentions, the forceful and enigmatic Anne shares Jan's relief when the problematic lemonade bottle is broken, Peter comes off as hero of the day, and general cheer is restored. Refreshing. . . and tantalizing.
