KIRKUS REVIEW

The Gesta Romanorum -- a treasure trove of legends, parables, whimsey and adventure story- is translated into English. The stories retold here have served literature well: Chaucer and Shakespeare were among those who tapped the tales. The group of fables are amusing and appropriate for reading aloud to younger children while the adventure and romantic stories are more suitable for more facile independent readers in fifth and sixth grades.
