For lovers of horses and riders of ranges, a rangy tale, pleasantly slow like the swing of a ranchman's lope, about a faithful horse and a searching cowboy. Black Tiger and his mother, Old Snorter, are captured by Jim Summers and spend a winter on the Sheridan Ranch. But the following spring, the colt begins a two year stretch with wild bands, rustlers, storms, hard life on the open prairie, that ends only after he has recognized his former master and rescued him from wolves. Not too sentimental and far more the horse's story than humans', this has some nice passages.
