Subtitled "" to India"" -- these are experiences of an Air Force Chaplain in India, and provide a record of vitality. Strictly non-church in language, this is straight soldier life as they lived it -- and observation of Indian life and the discomforts and disease it produced. His assignment to a medium bomber group, a foodless three-day train ride to New Delhi, the screwballs in his outfit and miscellaneous escapades; his own , the letters to families at home, the psychological aid often needed, the religious services which some -- but not all -- attended; mystic India, and strange tales thereof; Indian realities, famine and disease and dirt; his friendship with Mother of a nearby Catholic and the work they did jointly to culminate in the Christmas celebration staged by the boys for the convent children....Interesting, often entertaining, personal story.
