GREEK LITERATURE IN TRANSLATION

In these days of resurveying the literature of the past, this is an extraordinary achievement in book publishing. There is excellent balance and discrimination used in presenting sometimes the total text (as for example in 9 complete plays of Aohytus, Sophocl, Eurlpedan); in extracts from classics in ten categories:-Homer, tragedies, comedies, the core of philosophical systems, history, mine, romance, satire, biography, poetry; the sum total presents a full length picture of Greek literature. In some instances standard modern versions in translation have been used; where needed, a new translation has been made (example -- Lysistrata). There are introductory notes to each section, modern in implication; an appendix traces the influence of the Greek classics in English literature.
