In a loosely written autobiography, the storyteller who introduced us to his own Peter Rabbit and his Briar Patch friends, tells how he achieved successes and honor. From a childhood on Cape Cod he took his first step writing copy for Shredded Wheat and Spring Water. From there he graduated to nature writing for magazines and after that Thornton Burgess' path went sharply up to the pinnacle of success he won with his stories and daily syndicated column. For young readers who seek encouragement, this account of a self-made man is recommended as quiet but consistent comfort. Pretty mild stuff, but of interest to readers who grew up in a world made lively by the characters of Thornton Burgess' facile pen.
