RED LANTERNS ON ST. MICHAEL'S

Long, fustian historical novel of the destruction of Charleston (symbol of an era), with a man of destiny theme. Young Perry wants to be a ""gentleman""; he is tutored by the man who eventually turns out to be his grandfather. He does newspaper work in Charleston, he does his bit in the Civil War; the siege of Charleston forms the local point for Northern hatred. Pretty florid, though there's a documentary feel to the incidents and facts that backbone the story.
