Recalling Schulman's The Big Hello (p. 320, J-100), ""Bear's a little scared/not me"" when this little girl's family is getting ready to move. Bear's owner finds her room in the new house ""very big and different from the one Bear was used to. . . .Bear could get lost here if he's not careful,"" but next morning, after exploring the neighborhood, ""I think Bear will like it here."" But Tobias' attempts to win identification and set a mood are a bit more subtle than Schulman's, and of course Pène du Bois' warm, glowing illustrations would lull even the most apprehensive Bear. Though his spiffy van, large white houses (the old one as well as the new), and spanking white maryjanes and socks on the little girl won't recall everyone's moving day, he makes even the empty rooms and packed cartons look warm and welcoming enough to be anyone's dream of one.
