On paradisal St. Martin in the Antilles, a crew of resident millionaires blench through their suntans when the decapitated corpse of a celebrity turns up on the run-down property they're just acquiring. A certain number of red herrings are processed, as if by a bad cannery, before the visiting American police officer fathoms the secrets of the charming young hotel manageress, the widowed lady novelist, the freaked-out draft dodger and the rest of the perfunctory catalogue. Execrable.
