GOPHER GOLD

Certain elements here carry it well beyond the limitations of tales of the Old West. There is a mining town background, there is men's lust for gold. But there is also the story of plague, of a dedicated doctor-and nurse- of the effect of crisis on men's minds -- and of what happens when the crisis recedes. Good adventure this with a curious human ambivalence which gives it distinction.
