A family of spelunking pigs, not truffle-diggers, are the Mellops, the in this fourth Mellops adventure by the author. With miners' equipment, they descend to the dreary depths of a cave, gathering useful and useless information along the way. A sudden flood-plus perfume smugglers-add to the boisterous confusion, but the pigs via perfume-filled barrels, ascend with a few cave-pieces to show for their efforts. The story would be more effective, had the author not ammed quite so many bizarre details into so small a space. But, the cartoon illustrations (in blue, peach, black and white)—especially the ones of the pigs in total blackness— have the kind of humor and exuberance which will be enjoyed.
