KIRKUS REVIEW

Another kind of skin game, the cosmetics industry, is exposed from the time when in 1933 Lash Lure blinded one woman, killed another, and was partly instrumental in the passage of the Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act of 1938 which, since it has no pre-market testing requirements, is insufficient protection. The author, a magazine writer, surveys various injurious products, and if manufacturers have proved guilty of faulty or incomplete labeling, she is there with all the brand names in dyes, ""medicated"" soaps and creams, estrogenic elixirs, etc. At the close, there is a hortatory appeal for citizen action to secure the proper legislation.... Magazine article into book for what remains, in all probability, the market of the former.
