Anyone who gets himself involved in yearly family squabbles over the aesthetics of tree trimming will at least give this Mole and Troll episode points for honesty, and there are moments when humble Mole looks as though he might be developing some individual traits. But the argument over how to trim the tree soon degenerates into a slapstick cranberry trowing fight -- ""blip,"" ""zip,"" and ""Plip, plip, plip. Another and another and another hit Troll"" -- and a round of verbal put-downs -- ""I will wrap you up in lights and make you twinkle like a little star."" Introduced at the right moment, this pair might help release Christmas tensions vicariously, though Mole and Troll mirror the ups and downs of childish friendships without revealing any particular personality of their own.
