TRIAL BY SLANDER

Janet, after the death of her husband, John, becomes involved with Jason Whiting, a professor, who hopes to be free of his incompatible marriage with Antonia, a vulgar and venomous woman. People talk, and talk more when Antonia is found murdered- with John's gun clearly fingerprinted by Jason. Only Janet believes in Jason's innocence despite the trial which finds him guilty and she is able to prove her point.... Not too much of a problem, but the everyday familiarity of the suburban scene (Westchester), domestic detail and the romance keeps this plausible. Certainly to women.
