This is the kind of tight lipped, hard mouthed story in the style which Chandler initiated and Bogart immortalized, and this time Mitch Tobin, ex-cop, is hired by a regional top man in the Syndicate to find out who murdered his playmate, after she had run off with his money and another man.... It's firm, it's packed, and on the draw all the way and very good in the genre. Coe is a pseudonym--it could be Lacy or McBain which even if wrongly tagged should be the right audience designation.
