IRISH FAIRY TALES AND LEGENDS

adapted by Una Leavy & illustrated by Susan Field

Pub Date: Nov. 1st, 1997
ISBN: 1-57098-177-9

A collection of ten Irish stories filled with magic, heroism, cleverness, romance, humor, and only a few leprechauns. Included are famous stories like ``The Children of Lir'' and ``T°r Na N-g,'' a variation of the King Midas story, and several stories about Fionn MacCumhail (a.k.a. Finn McCool), such as the familiar ``Giant's Causeway.'' Leavy spins her tales with the cadence and rhythms of an accomplished storyteller; she includes explanatory notes about each story and a pronunciation guide. Field's illustrations are enchanting—richly colored, but with an innocence that matches the disarming charm of the tales. (Folklore. 9-11)
