THE EARL'S FALCONER

By

Pub Date: April 5th, 1961
Publisher: Morrow

Young Dickon, enamored with the art of falconry, rescues a beautiful hawk from a tree but does not return it immediately to the Earl's castle from whence it came. The Earl saves Dickon's life because of his obvious gifts as a falconer and instead of punishment, Dickon is apprenticed to the Earl's falconer in order more fully to master his chosen craft. Dickon's adventures with the hawks enlighten us on the care and training of these birds and on the essential position they held during the Middle Ages. Through Dickon's story, we view numerous aspects of life in medieval times as well. An unusual topic treated in interesting terms.
