An entertaining life history of an educated Russian of the bourgeoisie, set against pre-revolutionary city and country life. First a student, Paul goes on to become a doctor and a public figure of wide renown. But his success is short--lived, and he ends his life a moral bankrupt, both in his personal and public career, paralleling the bourgeois class he represents. A good story.
