THE STORY OF AMERICAN ROADS

A brief and breezy glimpse of our most important routes of travel, with the story of their development. At least one of the roads treated is bound to mean ""home"" to young people of various sections of the country: the Boston Post Road; the Wilderness Road; the Cumberland Road; Santa Fe Trail and others, are discussed in historical and current perspective. The coming of railroads, canals, horse and buggy, bicycle, car and trucks has had its effect upon the building of highways, and the part these routes have played in the development of America's mentioned in the narrative. A section explaining route markings and numbers will aid the young traveller.
