Fans of this team's The Secret in the Matchbox (1988) will welcome this new escapade, in which constant-scapegoat Bobby Bell takes a witch to school; but though Shelley's fanciful borders--which feature Bobby's classmates and other mischievous creatures--are still wonderfully imaginative, the story itself is less artfully contrived, depending on fairly predictable mayhem for its appeal.
